Warning
On Thursday 7th April a ‘vishing’ scam was reported to Q Card where a person contacted a Q Card
customer to request their card details and other personal information.
What is ‘phishing’ and ‘vishing’?
‘Phishing’ is when you receive an email from what appears to be a bank or financial institution giving
some reason as to why you need to confirm your personal information and account details. The email
will request you to click on a link and direct you to a website that appears to be a legitimate website
from that institution. However, the website is a fake, even though it may look just like the real thing.
You are then requested to enter personal information as well as details of your card account.
‘Vishing’ is similar in approach to phishing except contact with you is made by phone and the caller
posing as a representative of the company. They may say they are calling to carry out a survey,
discuss your overdue account or some other reason. As with phishing, they ask you to provide
personal information and request details of your card account.
Fraudsters capture all these details and then use them to attempt to commit fraud.
What you can do to protect yourself
-
Keep your card and account details safe, do not disclose your card details, PIN or password
to anyone. -
Check your account statements to ensure no-one else is accessing your account.
-
Do not open or respond to suspicious emails – consider reporting or deleting them straight away.
-
If you receive a call and you are suspicious of the caller’s identity, ask for a name
and number and call them back. -
Check that the number is correct for Q Card.
-
Report anything suspicious by calling Q Card Customer Services on 0800 117 000.
